The Detailer's Dream

If you are a person of detail, you will like Chapters 25, 26, and 27 of Exodus. It reads like everything you always wanted to know about the Tabernacle, but were afraid to askJ. So we’ll look at a few “details” in these chapters. You will notice in Chapter 25. verses 2&3, you see the word “offering” repeated three times. According to the Jerusalem Talmud, this is because one reference is to the half shekel per head to make the sockets from (Ex. 38:26, 27). The second time it’s mentioned is a reference to the “per head offering” (beka offering) for the community coffers to purchase the sacrifices with. The other one was an individual offering to make the Mishkan with. All the gold and copper and other items were given on a voluntary basis, only the silver was tied in to a required offering and it was done on an equal basis for everyone. As we move along to verse 7 of Ex. 25, it speaks of the shoulder garment. Of course we know this is referring to the two stones the High Priest wore on his shoulder. They made a “seat” for them out of gold. The setting for these stones was also called, “the place of the seat.” The stones filled these seats, thus being called the “filing stones.” The names of the twelve patriarchs were put on these stones in birth order. Verse 10...And they shall make an Ark…..I think it’s appropriate the Ark is mentioned in verse 10. Ten stands for YHVH’S Ten Commandments. The number ten is seen as a combination of the number 4 (creation) and 6 (man) added together. So you can say that all creation and man is subject to YHVH’S laws of the universe, of which we are the most familiar with the big ten. The number ten is used 242 times in the Bible.

For instance, there were ten patriarchs before the flood, ten plagues, Abraham prayed for ten righteous men in Sodom, ten virgins, ten Psalms begin with Hallelujah and in the end times, there will be a ten kingdom confederation over the earth. Also we see in Genesis one, YHVH spoke ten times saying, “YHVH said.” In the Tabernacle there were boards ten cubits long, ten curtains, on the west side of the court were ten pillars, ten sockets, to name a few Tabernacle tens. We know Bezalel crafted the Ark. We also know it says the Ark was covered in gold inside and out. The Talmud says that Bezalel made 3 Arks, one of wood and two of gold. The wooden one he put inside the gold one and then put the other gold one inside of that. (Yoma 72b Shek 16b) Then he covered the rim of all three in gold. That would seem to be easier than trying to fashion one Ark out of both wood and gold meshing them both together. The cover of the Ark was made of one solid piece of beaten gold with two Cherubim on top, all one piece. You could see the two Cherubim as a picture of the two houses (Ephraim & Judah). YHVH spoke from between those Cherubim. In Chapter 25:29 it mentions spoons. These are not like our table spoons in this day and age. These spoons were golden forms used to put the frankincense in beside the bread (Lev.24:7). Two handfuls of frankincense were used each time. The bread was baked on the day before the Sabbath in iron pans, then it was transferred into pans made of gold to await the Sabbath. When it comes to the Menorah, a lot of Rabbis believe it was made supernaturally. They believe Moshe threw the gold in the fire and it came out a Menorah. Since we do not have anything in scripture to verify this, it’s certainly not to be taken as fact. We do know each of the branches of the Menorah faced the middle branch, representing Yeshua.

It was five feet high by three and a half feet wide. So it wasn’t some little hand held piece like we see in pictures. It weighed approximately 136.4 pounds. The tongs were used for taking the wicks from the oil, setting them in place, and taking them out of the lamps. Since they are used for taking the wicks with them, they were known as “a pair of takers.” I’ve known many of them in my day, but they certainly weren’t dealing with lampsJ! The material is interesting that was used in the Tabernacle. It was made up of 4 kinds of thread twisted 6 times. Isn’t that interesting that 4x6=24 and 24 is YHVH’S number for priesthood. The curtains had Cherubim on them with the faces of a lion and an eagle. When you walked past them their faces would appear to follow you. There were lots of details alright. I believe all the details were necessary because YHVH was having Moshe make the earthly Tabernacle a picture of the heavenly one. If you look in Revelation you’ll see things mentioned that you saw in the earthly Tabernacle. You’ll see a Menorah, the Ark, white robes, crowns, the Altar, Cherubim with different kinds of faces, incense, the Golden Censor, etc. It even speaks of the thirty minutes of silence in Heaven. Guess who could not have anyone speaking to him just before he went into the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur (Day of Judgment), the High Priest. Parallel alert, parallel alert! In Exodus 25:9 you see the word “pattern” mentioned. You can’t have a pattern without an original, and I think that original is in Heaven. The Tabernacle, the detailer’s dream! Tune in next time for the outfitting of the High Priest and see how YHVH uses an array of colors, white on white, gold on white, white on gold, gold on gold, yes He can “design on a dime.”J
