Hands and Feet |
| Exodus
14:21-22—Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; Adonai
turned the sea into dry land; the waters were divided; Am Yisrael went
into the midst of the Red Sea on dry ground; the water was a heap on the
left and right. Joshua 3:15-17—The priests feet dipped into the edge
of the Jordan; the water split; the people crossed on dry ground; the
priests stood on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan Here we see that
Moses’ outstretched hand over the sea is a picture connected to the
priest’s feet dipping into the edge of the Jordan. We already know the
Messianic significance of Moses’ outstretched hand and the event of
the splitting of the Red Sea. The splitting of the Red Sea is the first
clear example of salvation (Remember Exodus 14:13—Do
not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation (Yeshuat) of the LORD,
which He will accomplish for you today!) Scripturally, salvation occurs
thus. The enemy is about to kill you and you have no hope for escape.
Out of no where, Yeshua supernaturally steps onto the scene, delivers
you and destroys your enemy. That’s the Torah’s picture of
salvation. The reason why the Torah uses the splitting of the Red Sea to
define salvation is because it is a perfect picture of salvation through
Messiah Yeshua. Am Yisrael’s bondage to Egypt was a picture of our
slavery to sin.
Just as Am Yisrael could not deliver itself from the Egyptian bondage of Pharaoh, neither could we deliver ourselves from bondage to sin and hasatan. Am Yisrael was freed from Egyptian bondage when YHVH destroyed their enemy, Pharaoh. So likewise, we are freed from slavery to sin and hasatan because of Yeshua’s triumph over hasatan through His execution. Therefore, Am Yisrael’s salvation through Moses’ outstretched hand is a picture of the true salvation of mankind through the outstretched hand of Messiah Yeshua! Moses’ outstretched hand is connected to the priest’s feet in a second part of a salvation picture. Just as it was Moses’ outstretched hand that opened the Red Sea for Am Yisrael (delivering/saving them) and brought the waters of the Red Sea down on Am Yisrael’s enemies (destroying them), it was the feet of the priests which stopped the flow of the Jordan, so Am Yisrael could cross it, and, it was the feet of the priests that caused the Jordan to flow again. Do you see the Messianic significance of this connection? We know that salvation through Moses’ outstretched hand is a picture of salvation through Yeshua’s outstretched hand on the execution stake. This outstretched hand that brings salvation by parting waters (and points us to the outstretched hands of Messiah Yeshua on the execution stake) has now been linked a second time to the feet of priests that “also part water.” This is a veiled prophecy (shadow) of salvation through the pierced and outstretched HANDS, and pierced FEET to bring salvation! Thus hands & feet here = salvation revealed in the Torah. Shalom |
