In
Mathew
5:13, it reads, You
are salt for the land (CJB).
Remember that whenever you
see land, it automatically
designates people and Torah.
So the salt for the land
is also salt for the people.
In verse 14, it says you
are a light for the world.
In first century Hebraic
mindset, both salt and light
were synonyms for the Torah
of Moses. We see in
Proverbs 6:23 that
it states YHVH"S Torah is
light. For the commandment
is a lamp, (a lamp holds
oil which makes light) and
the teaching is light (Torah);
and reproofs for discipline
are "the way to life."
Like
light, salt is also referred
to in the Bible as symbolizing
the covenant between YHVH
and Israel. Remember, we
are Israel. In
Numbers 18:19 we
read the passage: All the
offerings of the holy gifts,
which the sons of Israel
offer to Adonai, I have
given to you and your sons
and daughters with you,
as a perpetual allotment.
It is an everlasting covenant
of salt (Torah), before
YHVH to you and your descendants
with you. When Yeshua said,
you are the salt of the
earth, he was telling us
we are the salt of the covenant.
We are supposed to be YHVH'S
covenant of Torah to the
world.
In
the N.T. Paul tells us to
present our bodies a living
and holy sacrifice. Then
we must have salt (Torah)
on our sacrifice, for all
the sacrifices required
salt. If not, then the sacrifice
is not acceptable to YHVH.
In Mathew 5:16 it tells
us to LET OUR LIGHT SHINE
BEFORE MEN in such a way
that they may see your good
works and glorify YHVH.
In letting our light shine
we are doing the good works
of the Torah. So we must
always be salted and full
of light (saturated with
Torah). But beware, when
you are full of light, you'll
also do the same thing as
your porch light does, "attract
a few bugs", and the brighter
the light, the bigger the
bug!
