The
physical body is answerable
along with the soul in how
it conducts itself while
here on Earth. We are plagued
by the world, the devil,
and the FLESH. There was
once a king who possessed
a beautiful orchard full
of fruit bearing trees.
He set two men as watchmen
over this garden, one lame
and one blind. The lame
man said to the blind man,
“I see some choice fruits
over there, let me get on
your back and we will go
get some to eat”. So the
lame man mounted on the
blind man’s back and they
took the fruits and ate
as much as they could hold.
This continued day after
day as they ate their fill
each day from among the
choice fruits.
After
a while the owner of the
orchard came and asked,
“ What has happened to all
my choice fruits”? The lame
man said to the owner, “
Have I legs that I could
go and pick the fruit”?
The blind man in turn replied,
“ Have I eyes that I could
see to go pick the fruit”?
So what did the king do?
He ordered the lame man
to get on the back of the
blind man and judged them
as one. At the final judgement
our soul will be cast back
into our body and judged
as one. If not, the body
could declare, “look, it
is the soul who sinned,
since I was separated from
the soul I have only lain
here in silence doing nothing
sinful”. Likewise, the soul
could answer, “ but look
at me, since I was separated
from the body I just fly
around in space hurting
no one”. So we see how both
are guilty in the eyes of
YHVH.
One
reacts on the other. We
must try our best to let
the Godly part of us overrule
the sinful part. Then there’s
a physical cleanliness to
be dealt with. It is told
of Hillel that when he finished
his lesson with his students,
he walked part of the way
home with them and then
turned to depart. His students
asked him, “where are you
going Rabbi”? “To perform
a religious duty”, he answered
them. “I am going to the
bath house”. “Is that a
religious duty”, they ask?
He answered them, “ If someone
is appointed to scrape and
clean the statues of the
king which are set up in
theatres and such, and even
gets paid to do this as
they associate with nobility,
how much more should I,
who am created in the divine
image and likeness of my
creator take care of my
body”! We can see how great
of an importance cleanliness
was to the Hebrew people.
So cleanliness is next to
Godliness in more ways than
people realize!
