It
is meant for man to work
for his living and while
doing so, not to look down
upon another’s job position
in life. How much labor
did Adam have to go through
to get his bread on the
table? He ploughed, sowed,
reaped, piled up the sheaves,
threshed, winnowed, sifted
the flour, kneaded, and
then baked. Whereas, we
just get up to the bread
already sitting there for
us and never think of that
as any kind of blessing.
Then when it came to clothes
Adam had to grow the animal,
shear it, wash the wool,
comb it, spun it, weave
it, and then affix it all
together. What do we do?
We get up and choose each
day which ready made garment
we want to wear that day.
Some may have worked in
a hot factory to put all
those clothes together.
Another may have the job
of picking out the finest
of the breads for a resturant
or clothes for a fashion
show. The one who sewed
together the 10,000 dollar
dress is no less on God’s
scale than the movie star
who wears it.
It
is said that a man named
Simeon, who was a well digger,
once told a Rabbi, “I am
as great as you are.” “How
so?” asked the Rabbi. “Because
my work is of as much consequence
to the community as yours.”
“When you tell a man or
woman to use water which
is ceremonially purifying,
it is I who provides it
for them.” So if everyone
no matter what high position
he holds in life, works
as if they are performing
a service for the community
and unto God, there wouldn’t
be as much “class-pride”
to contend with in the world.
A group of people were on
a boat when a man began
to drill a hole under his
seat. They asked him what
he was doing. “Why is it
any of your business?” he
snapped. “I’m the one drilling
the hole here, aren’t I?”
“Yes”, they replied, “but
your hole could drown all
of us!”
As
so typical in life, that
man’s actions affected a
whole group of people. How
do you think it affects
the spiritual part of us
when we won’t cooperate
with others, or look down
on another man because of
lack of education or job
position. The bottom line
is, your conduct affects
your neighbors and theirs
affects you. We are all
in this life here together,
so if the house falls, woe
to the windows! So let’s
try not to knock down anyone
elses’s house in life. You
can’t “look down” on another
person if you’re always
“looking up” to the Father!
