Hashem,
who has seventy names, gave the Torah, which has seventy names,
to Israel, which has seventy names, which originated from seventy
people who went down to Egypt with Jacob, and was chosen from among
seventy nations, to celebrate seventy holy days in the year (52
Sabaths plus all the days of the festivals totaling 18 ). The Torah
was transmitted to seventy elders and safeguarded by the Sanhedrin
of seventy Sages who were called, the eyes of the community. The
Torah was translated into seventy languages to make it understandable
to the seventy nations and was engraved on seventy stones after
Israel crossed the Jordon on their way to the Holy Land. In the
Holy City of Jerusalem, which had seventy names, they built the
Temple, which had seventy pillars. There on Sukkot seventy sacrifices
were offered for the sake of seventy nations. So we can see the
importance of the number 70!
